Due to the increased rate of electronic crimes, such as traps set by hackers to steal valuable information from individuals, whether it’s personal or work-related, and people always falling into these traps because they lack the knowledge on how to protect themselves in the cyber world using the right tools.
Hexa Connection has launched the campaign ‘Cyber Security Project’ to raise awareness of cyber hygiene and emphasis the importance of data protection. This program was achieved over the course of 2016, 2017, and 2018 with different targets each time.
In 2016 and 2017, the project aimed at journalists and social activists since the nature of their work requires sending and receiving information usually via calls or emails, which can be vulnerable to piracy, so it was imperative to educate them on cyber protection to reduce the risk associated with their field of work.
In 2018, the campaign targeted the general public to give them the necessary knowledge for cyber-protection, through videos and social media sponsored campaigns, creating an ongoing mechanism for recording the violations and attempts at hacking by people. To define the key-risk factors and vulnerabilities by the government in terms of cybersecurity for activists and civil society staff, monitoring for accidents, and responding to requests for assistance needed by targeted activists in civil society.
